Animal Totems and Their Lessons in Life (U - V)

VULTURE: Vultures feed exclusively on carrion, dead flesh. They perform a very useful function by disposing of potential sources of disease. They are Natures vacuum cleaners of Earth Mother.
The Andean Condor, the largest of the Vultures, has a wingspan of up to 12 feet. In North America, the Turkey Vulture is the most common. They are adaptable and have a keen sense of smell that they use to locate food. The California Condor is now on the verge of extinction. It once had a range from British Columbia to Florida, but in a failed attempt to eliminate coyotes with strychnine poisoned meat, the California Condor has been reduced to about 60 individuals to present day.
Many people do not like Vultures because of the impression that since they feed of carrion, they must be unclean birds. The truth is the complete opposite. They are actually quite clean, in the fact they do clean and prune themselves and bathe after each meal.

The gift that Vulture holds for us: The cleaning up of messes we as humans would not even come close to.
Many times we create physical and spiritual messes which we do not want to deal with, expecting something or someone to do it for us. The Vulture guides us to the efficient and joyful resolution of such problems.

If Vulture has come to you by vision or in the dreaming, you are being asked to remedy a messy situation and turn it into something positive.

If, however, messes seem somehow to always be around you. eventually you will end up with a reputation for attracting and creating problems. This can put you in a bad light, like the Vulture. Learn from Vulture's example and clean up your act to avoid getting and unfavorable reputation.
