Southern Style Hush Puppies
« on: March 09, 2015, 10:10:24 PM »
Here is another favourite of the old South..they are served usually as a side dish with fish or whatever...
I personally always tripled this recipe because of everyone grabbing them so quickly! to make sure there was enough that went around..

NOTE: Before mixing your batter, have your cooking oil (Vegetable oil is usually preferred) heating to: 315 degrees (American Tempt).

1/4 cup corn meal
1/4 cup self-rising flour
1 egg beaten
Add 6 Tablespoons Whole milk
2 Tablespoons grated sweet onion (Or to taste)

Stir in the liquids into cornmeal mixture and drop by Tablespoon size spoonfuls into your hot oil and cook until golden brown! This single batch only makes about 12 hush puppies.. so as mentioned earlier, I would double or even triple your batter depending on how many people you are serving..they do go fast!
