Not trying to sound bias or being against the white race, but it is a fact that we as Native Americans are being made once again to just "Fade Away" and not exist.. we are being completely wrote out of the history books in schools. Just to say we only existed maybe in old westerns on the television or was just make-believe characters of some child's game on the computer like elves, dwarfs, and fairies.
There once was a saying some time ago.. "Old Indians never die, they just fade away"
We as Indians, will not do this no matter what is said or done to present day to get totally rid of us!
Yes, we "Blend-In" present day, because of not living in communities or government reservations anymore, we dress like the whites and other races not our own, we married into those other races not our own and changed our speech, mannerisms, and ways and even beliefs. The "Suburban Indian" are what we become.
I personally have seen our young, no longer wishing to wear traditional clothing even for a pow wow event, but green or purple, multi-colored dyed hair and the western suburban clothing.
I will go as far as saying, it is not just our young who no longer care about their cultures or heritages.
And there are many other races that are suffering the same fate as ours of eventually just 'Fading Away" because of the lack of interest and becoming too modernized and blending into a world culture of no-care attitude and laziness.
The older generation such as mine now, can only hope and pray that the ones we did get to teach as much as we could, will hold onto that teaching and keep alive what IS LEFT to carry on so none will "Fade Away"...
